Touch your Tits

I know with all the Summer fairs that we have going on, its easy to forget about some. We've been rocking Fashion Voodoo for the past couple weeks, but let's not forget another important cause! The Pink Ribbon Fair is still going on until the 25th of Aug. and donations to the American Cancer Society can still be made at the designated tip jars attached to the huts. Don't forget to pick up your PRF exclusives from numerous designers and portions of this will be donated to the ACS as well.

In order to keep with the theme of Breast Cancer awareness, below I've included the steps on how to check yourself for signs of  abnormalities  in your boobies.

Step 1

Look for physical changes. Notice any changes in the size, shape or color of your breasts. Look for signs of swelling, redness, dimpling, puckering or development of a rash in the skin. Note if your nipple has changed color, position, turned inward, become itchy, scaly or painful. Also examine your nipple for any signs of a watery, milky, yellowish or bloody discharge. Do this exam in front of a mirror with your arms down by your sides and then again with your arms lifted overhead.

Step 2

Feel for abnormalities in the breasts. Lie down and use the opposite hand to breast. For example, use your right hand to examine your left breast. Check a large square area that encompasses all of the breast tissue. This runs a width from your armpit to your breastbone and then from your collarbone to your bra line (where the bottom of your bra would touch). Use the pads of three fingers to make small dime-size circles. Start in one area of the breast. In each area you test, make three circles. Do the first circle with a light touch, the second with a medium touch and then one circle with deeper pressure. As you move from one area to another, keep your finger pads in contact with your skin. Move in an up-and-down pattern.

Step 3

Examine under your armpits. Feel for abnormalities in this area as you did in your breasts, by making small circles. Notice any firm lumps or areas that feel thicker than others. When you lift your arm to examine underneath, just lift it slightly and avoid straightening your arm all the way up. According to the American Cancer Society, "raising your arm straight up tightens the tissue in this area and makes it harder to examine."

You can check yourself at least once a month just to familiarize yourself with your breasts. While this is a good way to catch breast cancer in its early stages, nothing can beat the recommendation of getting a Mammogram at least every one-two a years if you are in your 40s or older. Take care of your boobies and your boobies will take care of you. Feel them up! You can pass on these tips to all the females in your lives, you never know it might save a life.

P.S. Ohmygawd these boots! I die. <3 Oh please note they don't come pink they are black when you buy them but there's a colour change HUD.

UPDATE:

So after posting this my blog partner Saphira asked me how come I only mentioned women, because guys get breast cancer too. (She knows someone who had it) I knew it was true because I'd read about it before, however for some reason it didn't occur to me to include them. So, I decided to do some research when I got up this morning and do an update to include some details, tips and statistics for the men as well. It’s going to make this post very long, but it will be worth it.

While male breast cancer is generally rare, it still occurs and when it does it’s just as serious and as deadly as when it occurs in a female. It’s estimated that about 2,140 cases are diagnosed annually in the US and about 300 hundred in the UK. If you think these numbers are small, consider that 450 of those 2,140 cases in the US resulted in deaths. The upside to this however, are that the lesions or lumps are much easier to detect in males because they have smaller or less breast tissue than women. I know, it would feel very silly standing in a mirror using the tips and guidelines above, but the same tips of feeling around the - let's not call it breasts I know the guys are cringing thinking 'I don't have breasts Vixen!', let's call it- pecs.

You can use the above steps as a guide to feeling around your pecs ( ;) ) with your fingers to detect any lumps or abnormalities in the tissue. If you feel anything, please don't ignore it, go to your doctor and also make a habit of having your regular checkups and when you do, don't be ashamed or afraid to ask for this examination from your doctor. It’s better to be safe than sorry! I hope this was all helpful.

Take care of yourself Guys and Dolls. <3
